Travel to Istria Croatia – Pula

Pula is an urban center placed in the country’s northwestern part on the Adriatic Sea near the base of the Istrian peninsula. It features a population of some 58,000 people it is the largest urban center in Istria.

Pula originated before the Roman era. Local findings picture the history running back more than 3,000 years. The city is very Roman in culture and custom because it was a former colony of Rome in 178 B.C. One of the most monumental sights in Croatia is the Roman amphitheatre in Pula. It is well maintained and today it is in use for pop and classical concerts. Made during the 1st century AD is spotted as one the most spectacular still-existing Roman coliseums in the whole world. This was kept from near-destruction when the Venetians (city was below Venetian principle and played an important role in the Habsburg Empire) took to taking the arena’s stones and placing them in their homes and other constructions all over Pula as well.

This is what they call Pula City’s main public square. Existing, you will notice an ancient city mansion that was set up during the sixteenth century. What is interesting in this city hall is that some parts of it were made using parts of an former temple.

At nowadays, Pula has however preserved some of its ancient Roman architectures. The most famous are the Roma and Augustus temples built during the 1st century A.D., the Arch of the Sergii, and the Porta Aurea triumphal arch constructed in 1st century B.C. Other sights include the Franciscan Church, the Cathedral and Monastery.

Pula is one of Croatia’s major port areas. It is also an industrial center.
Apart from this, the trendy blue beaches of the city has made Pula a very catchy tourist centre in the country.
